Grandpa has been present throughout my entire life, and I’ll miss him greatly. Some of my earliest memories are from times spent with him and Grandma at their house. Everytime we went, it was always a fun and exciting trip for me where he helped me learn more about my Taiwanese roots and develop a passion for learning. I remember him showing me how to play Xiangqi, watching over us as we played in the backyard, and teaching us about his work addressing pests in the Panama Canal.
While he never explicitly pushed my siblings and I, his presence positively influenced and motivated us to continue learning and pursuing our passions. Behind the decisions we made, I always felt his presence and pride in what we did. Even though he’s moved on, I know he’s still watching over and supporting us.
When I was young, Grandpa shared his “secret” to keeping his good eyesight as we watched the stars. He revealed that his eyesight was from watching the stars and cypress trees sway every night. I’ll always think of him when I see the night sky. I’ll miss and love you always, Grandpa.
